Hermon Arts and Sustainability hub embraces lime

Opened in 2024, Y Stwdio in Pembrokeshire was built with sustainable materials – a substantial timber frame, walls made from rammed hemp and lime mix and a roof with deep overhangs

This brand new build was perfect for traditional materials. With a solid timber frame and hempcrete shuttered walls already constructed, TLC was asked to apply the lime finishes.  With the assistance of the project leaders, TLC helped train a willing group of individuals to lime plaster the walls and some hardy trainees learnt how to roughcast the pine end.  The finished building is a noble example of how to combine traditional materials and techniques with modern sustainable technologies.  It’s also a great space for local people to learnt a myriad of new skills from pottery to potting plants.
