This house was built in the Edwardian era and finished with real care and attention. The walls are built with some of the poorest remnants of slate we have seen (all laid in lime mortar), yet the brick quoins, window and door headers suggest the build was anything but cheap. The skill with which it was built is quite inspiring. Unfortunately, early in the 20th Century a very hard cement pebbledash was applied and the usual rot set in. Its present custodians have saved the house for future generations by employing TLC to remove the cement and replace it with a breathable lime roughcast. |
